The BSF Director and delegation attended the “International Symposium on Islamic Cultural Heritage in Plovdiv”, held in Plovdiv

The “International Symposium on Islamic Cultural Heritage in Plovdiv” was held in Plovdiv from October 24-26, 2024. The symposium was organized by the Higher Islamic Institute and supported by Trakya University, the Foundation for Islamic Sciences Research, the State Archives Agency, and the Ivan Vazov National Library in Plovdiv.

The symposium’s opening was attended by Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadji, President of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat Ahmed, Deputy Grand Muftis Ahmed Hasanov, Beyhan Mehmed, and Murat Pingov, Regional Mufti of Plovdiv Taner Veli, Plovdiv Regional Governor Hristina Yancheva, Plovdiv Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov, Deputy President of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selim Argun, Ambassador of Turkey to Bulgaria Mehmet Sait Uyanık, Director of Balkan Studies Dr. Sevba Abdula, as well as diplomats, representatives of the academic community, and other guests.

As the Chair of the Symposium’s Organizing Committee, Dr. Abdullah Trabzon, Vice-Rector of the Higher Islamic Institute, noted that nearly 200 researchers and academics expressed interest in the International Scientific Conference following the announcement of its theme, but only 47 papers were accepted based on the established criteria. Dr. Trabzon highlighted the significance of Plovdiv for its cultural diversity and coexistence of people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds.
