Balkan Periodicals Project Launch and Exhibition in Sarajevo

Today, the project launch and exhibition of Balkan Periodicals: The Trajectory of Islamic Thought in Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1918-1945 was held at the historic Gazi Husrev Beg Library in Sarajevo.
The opening remarks were made by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Köroğlu, the project coordinator; Dr. Sevba Abdula, director of BSF; Dr. Mehmet Akif Yaman, director of the Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo; and Mr. Dženan Handžić, director of the Gazi Husrev Beg Library. Today’s ceremony also included the participation of Mr. Abdullah Eren, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities.
Prof. Dr. Izet Šabotić delivered a keynote speech on The Lives and Positions of Thinkers Between the Two World Wars. Following this, Dr. Sedad Bešlija moderated a panel discussion with the following presentations:
• Elma Dervišbegović: The Language of Bosnian Newspapers and Magazines Between the Two World Wars – An Analysis of the Papers: Biser, Narodna Uzdanica, Gajret, Islamski Svijet, Jugoslavenska – Bosanska Pošta, Večernja Pošta, Jenji Misbah, and Hrvat.
• Amir Đinić: On the Political, Military, and Islamic-Religious Conditions in the Republic of Turkey According to the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Magazine Islamski Svijet (1932-1936).
• Omer Merzić: The Question of Translating the Friday Sermon (Khutbah) into Bosnian Between the Two World Wars as Discussed in Bosnian Periodicals.
The meeting emphasized the process of project implementation and the issue of digitizing various historical periodicals from the Balkan region.
