International Akhisari Workshop: Politics and Ethics in Ottoman Europe Successfully Concluded

The International Akhisari Workshop: Politics and Ethics in Ottoman Europe (1500–1800) is the second event within the research project “Ottomans and Balkans: Sciences and Centers, 1500–1800.” Centered on Hasan Kâfi Akhisârî (d. 1024/1615), a key figure in early modern Ottoman Balkan thought, the workshop examined the interplay between political structures and moral norms in the empire’s European provinces from the 16th to 18th centuries.

Held on October 24–25, 2025, at the Balkan Studies Foundation, the event opened with remarks by Dr. Sevba Abdula, Director of the Balkan Studies Foundation, and Prof. Dr. Özgür Kavak, Professor at Marmara University and Chair of the Workshop. The workshop successfully concluded with 5 sessions and 14 presentations.
