Islami finished primary school in his town, and highschool in the city of Gjilan. He graduated from University of Prishtina, Faculty of Languages, Department of Orientalistics (2002/03-2006). He completed his master studies at State University of Sakarya in Turkey, Department of Modern History. His field of expertise during the master studies were the notebooks of the ottoman courts of the 17th century. In 2012/2013 he registered his doctorate studies at State University of Istanbul in Turkey, Department of Modern History and is currently writing his doctorate thesis titled “Kosova during the 18th century (the socio-economic aspect)”. His study field of interest is the history of the Albanians during the ottoman centuries in Kosova, with a special focus on the social and economic aspects of this period. Since 2015 he has been an independent scientific researcher on the ottoman period at the Institute of History “Ali Hadri” in Prishtina.
