We are honored to announce that Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, will deliver the conference’s keynote address.

The event is organised by the Balkan Studies Foundation (BSF) and Worldwide Lawyers Association (WOLAS), and supporters as Istanbul University, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the International University of Sarajevo, and the University of Sarajevo Institute of History. Nineteen distinguished participants, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Türkiye, Croatia, Austria and Kosovo, will contribute to the conference.

Marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Agreement, the conference will engage with the Agreement’s enduring legal, political and social implications, and will critically assess the evolving challenges and opportunities for peacebuilding in the Balkans and beyond. The Srebrenica Genocide, recognized as the largest atrocity in Europe since World War II, reflects the challenges of international law, politics, and memory in post-conflict societies. The Srebrenica Genocide represents a tragic violation of human rights that took place in July 1995 in Srebrenica, a “safe area” declared by the United Nations. Over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were systematically killed by Bosnian Serb forces. This massacre remains the largest mass killing in Europe since World War II and starkly highlights the international community’s failure to prevent genocide.
